Yes good old agra. I had a very similar experience in agra and totally agree with you.
I wanted to stay there for 3 days but couldnt stand it for more than 4 hours. Everyone just wanted to take every last penny of us, every taxi/ride we took, the drivers kept making stops at every souvenier/tourist shop and wouldn't take no for an answer until we visited it, obviously he got a commission for taking us there.
The hotel we stayed at offered to take us to Taj Mahal and back for 1500 rupees as the hotel owner put it" it is very very far away". We declined it, so his price came down to 600. anyhow we went outside and caught a private taxi. As it turns out The Taj mahal was only a 10 minute drive, which cost us 150 rupees.
And then once we get there we had every man and his dog in agra trying to sell us stuff, They kept tugging at our clothes, it was just so so so annoying. We finally threatened to punch the crap out of them if they didnt go away, haha funnily that worked like a charm, it was a good thing most of them are small and skinny.
As soon as we finished with Taj Mahal, we caught the 4pm train to jaipur (rajasthan). It was a completely different experience, totally loved it in rajasthan.

Wow miss what an ordeal! I have to hand it to you for even attempting to go to India in the first place. Definitely not my cup of chai. Hope things improve. In spite of all that it sounds like your doing your best to make the most of it regardless. Hope Nepal is better.
