Japan – a poem

An experiment with experiential learning Brought me back Seven years had passed Since I called Tokyo my home Like an ex-lover Familiar but different A flood of memories In the streets, big and small The love and the hate I once felt for the city, for the culture and for a boy Fused, buried A different self, many life times ago Filled with paradoxes Racism to extremes Celebritised or despised Aliens swimming in a foreign sea of manicured faces Designer top to toe Toy cars, Read more [...]

Ikigai – a reason to wake up in the morning

Why do you get up in the morning? Does an answer come into your mind straight away? It does for the people in Okinawa, and it thought to be one of the key factors in their longevity - estimated to lengthen the lives of the people by 7 years!  Ikigai is kind of like the French raison d'etre - 'a reason for being'. It could be a creative passion, your relationships, your job...  Everyone has a ikigai, even if you don't know it yet. In Okinawa they do that thing they love until they die. Why do Read more [...]

For shits and giggles

Japanese TV shows, crazy photoshoots, short films and many more things to laugh at... can you guess which are wigs and which are not?! Sakura Wonderful Jet. A short satire film about flying in different classes. How good is my Japanese! Shame they don't have the English version up here, it's actually kinda funny. Buchinuki - I was Yamu-Chan (lamb) - the gaijin (foreigner) TV host-girlfriend of one of the Garage Sale comedians. My first photoshoot - for a hair magazine. The beginning Read more [...]

Rights of Indigenous Peoples: A Personal Statement

As a "non-indigenous" Australian living on what was once the land of the Cadigal and Wangal Wangal communities, I wish to acknowledge the inter-generational responsibility that I feel toward the colonial past. As a beneficiary of "White Australia", to the Eora people of Sydney, I request your forgiveness. I stand in solidarity with your rightful demands to self determination and active participation in governmental decisions, and I hope I may learn from your eco-spiritual connection. May we, as Tom Trevorrow of the Ngarrindjeri puts it, learn to 'respect, care and share' the gifts that our planet offers us.
